As many of you may know, I've been playing the piano since I was four years old. For me, it's like that one activity/hobby that you've been involved in since you could first remember like dance or swim. In fact, I've been playing for so long, I hadn't realized that there are people who wish they could play the piano at the level I am at. There's a lot of reasons why piano lessons feel infeasible: the cost of a tutor (very expensive!) and the time commitment to practice and attend lessons. I decided to attack these reasons and provide low-commitment, cheap, but high-quality piano lessons to younger children. Little kids can be difficult to teach, and a lot of times they end up dropping the piano which makes an investment into a good keyboard or piano and a professional tutor appear futile. Taking lessons from a local high schooler may seem skeptical, but it's an excellent alternative. Plenty of students in my school district are musically talented, and many of them offer lessons in string, wind, brass, and choir. They're economically less stressful, and the comfort in taking lessons from a teacher who is also a student and can relate to the feeling of discomfort towards private lessons and the angst against practicing daily is a plus!
Although the piano is my forte (get the pun?), everyone has a different talent and skill that is worth sharing. Whether you choose to charge money or offer it for free, I encourage all of you to think about what you are best at and collaborate with others to provide for your community.
